iCSD is an annual meeting dedicated to the study of spreading depolarizations, the mass waves of cellular depolarization discovered by Aristides Leao. Depolarizations are a key pathologic mechanism in a variety of neurologic disorders and have been studied for over 70 years. Annual meetings to discuss these phenomena were initiated in 2003 with the formation of COSBID. In 2017, the meeting was re-formulated as iCSD to cultivate an open community and recognize spreading depolarizations as its own field of translational neuroscience.
